Toshiba has outed its latest 3D laptop, the Qosmio F750 3D, the first to offer glasses-free 3D. Pairing a lenticular display – which splits the image between the left and right eyes – with a 15.6-inch Full HD LCD panel and clever eye-tracking technology to preserve the 3D effect even as you move your head around, the Toshiba Qosmio F750 3D has a 2.0GHz Core i7 processor, NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M graphics, 6GB of DDR3 memory and a Blu-ray XL recordable drive.
That Blu-ray drive is capable of burning the new, super-capacious 128GB disks, as well as playing 2D or 3D Blu-ray movies and upscaling 2D DVDs into 3D. There’s also a 640GB 5,400rpm hard-drive, Harman Kardon speakers, HDMI port, WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0+HS and a memory card reader, while ports include three USB 2.0 and a USB 3.0.
Toshiba’s eye-tracking system uses the HD-resolution webcam to identify the user’s face and then tweak the positioning of the left/right-eye pixels behind the lenticular film, twisting the 3D image to suit their position. It’s also capable of showing 2D and 3D images simultaneously, so that you can have a 3D movie playing in one window and a 2D spreadsheet opened in another. On the downside, it’s only intended for one viewer, since the tracking system can’t handle multiple viewpoints.
The Toshiba Qosmio F750 3D will go on sale in the UK from early August 2011, priced at around £1,300. US pricing and availability is yet to be confirmed.

LG is talking up its forthcoming DM50D 3D monitor -- not a lot, mind you, but just enough to get us interested. The company offered up a largely spec-free press release on the forthcoming set, heralding the adoption of passive 3D glasses, "Flicker Free" capabilities borrowed from its Cinema 3D TVline, and double the brightness of conventional 3D sets. The display has a built-in DTV turner, HDMI capabilities for connecting with 3D-capable consoles and the like, and the ability to view images and videos directly from a USB flash drive. It'll be hitting Europe in July, with more of the world getting a crack at it later. Peep the 2D release after the break.

LG TAKES ENTERTAINMENT TO A NEW DIMENSION WITH THE SHARPEST, MOST ADVANCED PERSONAL 3D HDTV YET

Seoul, Jun. 28, 2011 -- LG Electronics (LG) today introduces its next generation DM50D monitor, which includes all the advantages found on LG's game-changing CINEMA 3D TVs in a form factor that fits easily on a desktop. The flicker-free, bright images and lightweight 3D glasses that customers have come to associate with CINEMA 3D can all be found on the DM50D, including Full HDTV. The DM50D is the perfect platform for 3D gaming and movie watching.

"Our consumer research showed that while interest in 3D monitors was high, there were certain misgivings about the cumbersome glasses, reported health concerns and lack of 3D content," said Si-hwan Park, vice president of the monitor division at LG's Home Entertainment Company. "Through CINEMA 3D technology, the DM50D addresses all of these concerns, leaving users free to be completely immersed in the best quality 3D content and gaming on any monitor on the market today."

Like CINEMA 3D TVs, the DM50D monitor is also "Flicker Free" certified by European quality assurance agencies TÜV and Intertek. As well as producing wonderfully smooth 3D images, the lack of flicker and low crosstalk means an end to the dizziness and headaches users could sometimes experience on conventional 3D screens.

The DM50D boasts the ultimate in 3D brightness, more than double that of conventional 3D monitors. What's more, the glasses – also available as a clip-on for corrective glasses wearers – are extremely light, have no batteries and never need to be recharged. This makes them very comfortable to wear even for long work sessions or movie marathons. The DM50D 3D glasses are very affordably priced and are compatible with all of CINEMA 3D products. The DM50D also comes with a built-in 2D to 3D conversion feature so viewers can always watch top-quality 3D content on the fly. The conversion function works whether or not the monitor is connected to a PC and kicks in automatically on games to deliver the ultimate in 3D entertainment.

What's more, the DM50D boasts Full HDTV picture quality with a built-in DTV tuner that supports MPEG4, DVBC, DVBT and other digital TV broadcasting signals. Real surround sound delivers some of the fullest and vivid sound on any monitor and HDMI makes it a cinch to connect the DM50D to 3D games consoles, set-top boxes and more. And USB Quick View HD Play allows for the direct viewing of videos and photos through a USB flash drive even when the PC is off, freeing users from long boot-up times.

LG's DM50D monitor will be available in Europe beginning in July, to be followed by additional markets worldwide.

We all know you deserve to live the projector lifestyle, but fitting Sony’s first home projector with 3D — the $10k (MSRP) VPL-VW90ES that launched last fall — into one’s budget might be a little tough. Now the company is launching the “affordable” VPL-HW30ES for the rest of us this year, featuring some of the same 240Hz SXRD tech in a cheaper package. There’s no word yet on pricing or a ship date here in the US, but it’s confirmed shipping in Europe and Japan next month with a pricetag of 370,000 yen ($4,626 US) in the latter. That lower price nabs specs like a claimed 70,000:1 contrast ratio and 1,300 lumens of brightness and all the picture adjustment settings befitting a product rocking the Elevated Standard tag, along with an upgraded 3D system to reduce crosstalk. 3D compatibility is achieved with Sony’s new lighter active shutter 3D glasses and an add-on IR sync device that are both sold separately — no complex lens switching necessary.

Sony expands its groundbreaking 3D home projector range with the affordable VPL-HW30ES

9th June 2011

Basingstoke, UK, 9th June 2011: Sony has today announced it has expanded its range of market leading 3D home projectors with the new, more affordable, VPL-HW30ES. Incorporating Sony’s latest lamp technology, dynamic lamp control system, movie fans have the opportunity to enjoy an unrivalled 3D cinematic experience, with stunning images that are three times as bright as Sony’s first 3D home projector, the VPL-VW90ES.

In order to achieve an optimal movie experience which feels natural on the eye, the VPL-HW30ES is equipped with Sony’s High Frame Rate SXRD Panel (1920ｘ1080), which helps to reproduce dramatically sharp and smooth motion and reduces the image motion blur for a crisper image (Motionflow) and deliver a dynamic contrast ratio of 70,000:1 and brightness of 1,300lm. In addition, “3D crosstalk” is significantly reduced thanks to the 240Hz SXRD panel drive system. The VPL-HW30ES is also capable of taking 2D video and simulating 3D images, bringing new life to classic movies from the past and allowing a wide variety of video content, such as live sports, to be enjoyed.

The VPL-HW30ES also enhances the customer viewing experience by enabling them to enjoy 3D and 2D pictures more comfortably. It has independent 2D/3D picture mode, which helps when you watch 2D and move on to watch 3D contents and you can watch the contents optimum picture image setting automatically. And the VPL-HW30ES runs very quietly with an advanced air discharge system by “22 db” which doesn’t disturb the overall cinematic experience.

“The launch of the VPL-HW30ES demonstrates Sony’s commitment to developing truly innovative products which allow more people than ever to experience 3D in their own living room,” said Tak Nakane, product specialist at Sony Professional, Sony Europe. “Built using Sony’s extensive 3D expertise, the VPL-HW30ES sets down a new benchmark for demanding movie-goers who want a high-end home cinema system at an affordable price.”

The VPL-HW30ES is compatible with Sony’s new active shutter glasses, the TDG-PJ1, which are 18 grams lighter than the previous model (59g compared to 77g). The TDG-PJ1 can be charged in 30 minutes to provide 30 hours of continuous watching. In conjunction with the new glasses, Sony has announced a new transmitter, the TMR-PJ1, which synchronises 3D content effortlessly to generate a high-quality natural 3D effect.

The VPL-HW30ES will be available across Europe in July 2011. The TDG-PJ1 and TMR-PJ1 are sold separately.

I am very pleased to announce the launch of a brand new version of the very popular NVIDIA PhysX SDK. The new PhysX 3.0 SDK is available to all registered developers on our developer support website located at:Â http://supportcenteronline.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=1949

PhysX is the world’s most pervasive physics solution for highly realistic and real-time simulation based effects for games, film and more. Version 3.0 of PhysX has been over three years in the making and features a new modular architecture and a completely rewritten PhysX engine. It provides a significant boost in overall performance, as well as efficient, reliable simulations across a broad spectrum of multi-core gaming devices – such as PCs, notebooks and gaming consoles, as well as emerging gaming platforms like handheld game devices, tablets, and smartphones.

Let’s take a look at some of the key features and capabilities of PhysX 3.0 SDK:

Larger Levels: Game levels are getting larger these days. That means they require more actors. In PhysX 3.0, developers can combine multiple actors into a single “aggregate”, which is managed as a single bounding-box entity in the broadphase stage of the collision pipeline. This reduces the computing load required to predict collisions between actors, and helps improve overall performance and memory efficiency of PhysX-3 relative to earlier versions.

Streaming: PhysX 3.0 enables efficient streaming of asset data into a simulation through a new feature, binary in-place serialization, which allows quick and memory-efficient insertion of actors into a scene. In addition, out-of-scene actor creation, which allows actors to be created outside the scene and stored rather than being created and destroyed on demand, provides developers with better asset management while minimizing troublesome compute load spikes.

More Effective Multithreading: The new Task Manager with managed thread pool allows games to take advantage of multi-core processors on all platforms, resulting in greatly increased performance and a much improved gaming experience.

Flexible and Powerful Tools: In addition to a highly optimized physics runtime, NVIDIA is releasing improved tools for artists that have been tailored to work within the developer’s asset production pipeline. A new release of PhysX Visual Debugger allows superior performance profiling, detailed memory analysis and improved visualization of all PhysX content across all major platforms.

PhysX 3.0 is available for all major gaming platforms, including PC, Xbox360™, PLAYSTATION®3, OSX, Linux and Android. PhysX 3.0 is designed to run on a variety of CPU architectures. Performance can be accelerated by any CUDA™-enabled NVIDIA GPU – including any GeForce 8-series or higher graphics card.

Like its predecessor, PhysX 2.8, the new PhysX 3.0 SDK binary version is available without charge to all registered and platform-authorized developers for both commercial and non-commercial applications.

With all the look-alike notebooks these days, for those who need something that stands out to flaunt their taste for luxury, ASUS has their Lamborghini edition mini notebooks. We’ve seen the ASUS Lamborghini Eee PC VX6 before with its glossy shell, but at Computex 2011, ASUS is showing off a successor called the VX6S with some upgraded specs.

On the outside, the new Lamborghini VX6S looks almost identical to its predecessor. The case and design still have the same style keyboard and trackpad. The only things noticeably different was that the VX6S on display was sporting a bright orange glossy hood and the palm rest was covered in leather.

The real changes are on the inside, where ASUS has now upgraded the processor and switched the graphics card from the NVIDIA ION to the AMD Radeon HD 6470M. The specs listed also mentions AMD’s HD3D capabilities of the graphic chip, which could mean a 3D display for the VX6S.

However, the display model was only a prototype, and the ASUS reps deliberated a bit when asked about possible 3D support before answering “no.” A lot of the specs could still be up in the air and even misprinted. The spec list had the words “New Intel Atom Processor NM10″ when NM10 is actually the Express Chipset used for Atom D510.

Nonetheless, the other specs are fairly standard with a 12.1-inch display, Bluetooth, Wireless N, 500 GB hard-drive, card-reader, and Windows 7 Home Premium. Pricing and release date are not yet available.

Tired of suddenly losing all depth while gaming with your Nvidia 3D Vision glasses on your face? Nvidia has the answer with a new product: Nvidia 3D Vision wired glasses. Besides not needing to be recharged, the new glasses are cheaper at $99 (U.S. MSRP), and offer the same 3D quality and features of 3D Vision wireless glasses.

Nvidia 3D Vision wired glasses include a 10-foot USB 2.0 cable for direct, easy connection to a 3D Vision PC or notebook. This makes it ideal for LAN gaming events and iCafe gaming centers, as it does not require batteries and the cable can easily be secured to a PC with an optional computer lock to minimize theft.

“3D Vision provides gamers and enthusiasts with the world’s largest ecosystem of 3D products and features,” said Phil Eisler, general manager of 3D Vision at Nvidia. “3D fans have been waiting for more affordable glasses, and we’re expecting our new 3D Vision wired glasses to hit the sweet spot for them.”

Nvidia 3D Vision wired glasses are expected to be available beginning in late-June 2011 from the Nvidia Store, as well as from leading retailers and e-tailers.

Press Released: New Wired Model Delivers Same Award-Wining 3D Vision Quality and Features With Sleek New Design, Making Full HD (1080p) 3D PC Gaming More Affordable

TAIPEI — (Marketwire) — 05/29/2011 — COMPUTEX 2011 — NVIDIA today announced a new addition to the NVIDIA® 3D Visionâ„¢ product family: NVIDIA 3D Vision wired glasses. The new glasses make the world’s best 3D PC experience more affordable at $99 (U.S. MSRP), and offer the same award-winning 3D quality and features of 3D Vision wireless glasses.

NVIDIA 3D Vision wired glasses, which feature NVIDIA’s advanced active-shutter technology, allow gamers and 3D enthusiasts to access the broadest selection of high-quality 3D content available today, including more than 525 full-HD 3D games, Blu-ray 3D movies, and streaming 3D video from YouTube and 3DVisionLive.com. NVIDIA 3D Vision wired glasses also support more than 65 different 3D Vision monitors, notebooks, and projectors, giving users complete flexibility in configuring their 3D Vision PCs.

For more information about 3D Vision visit www.nvidia.com/3dvision.

NVIDIA and YouTube made a rather caveat-heavy announcement today that promises to bring stereoscopic 3D YouTube videos to NVIDIA 3D Vision PCs and notebooks, running Firefox 4. If you’re rocking an NVIDIA GeForce GPU-equipped machine, sporting driver release 275 or later, a 3D Vision monitor, notebook, projector, or DLP HDTV, and Firefox 4 with streaming HTML5, you’ve got access to all the 3D goodness YouTube has to offer — given you’re not trying to access content via a standard YouTube channel, as the outfit’s HTML5 support is still limited. And don’t forget, you’ll need your active shutter 3D glasses handy, too. So, if you fit all of the aforementioned criteria, check out the demo video after break (and make sure to hit the HTML5 function under options) — otherwise, feel free to go on using the old cyan and red method for viewing YouTube in 3D. Full PR after the break.

NVIDIA 3D Vision Video Now Available Worldwide on YouTube

Users Can Easily Share and Enjoy High-Quality, Stereoscopic 3D Videos on YouTube With Their NVIDIA 3D Vision PCs

SANTA CLARA, CA — (Marketwire) — 05/26/2011 — NVIDIA today announced that YouTube is for the first time giving users the ability to view thousands of 3D videos in rich, high-quality stereoscopic 3D on their NVIDIA® 3D Visionâ„¢ PCs and notebooks when using the latest version of the Mozilla Firefox Web browser.

“We’re excited to introduce HTML5 and WebM support to the thousands of 3D videos available on YouTube,” said Jonathan Huang, 3D Product Manager at YouTube. “By embracing these open standards, NVIDIA 3D Vision users now have a great way of experiencing YouTube’s library of 3D content.”

“Firefox with 3D Vision creates a stunning and smooth 3D video experience using HTML5 video based on open standards,” said Jay Sullivan, VP of Products at Mozilla. “3D Vision from NVIDIA is a great example of the rich, innovative experiences that are being built on top of the speed and graphics power that Firefox delivers to the Web.”

“Sales of our ASUS G series notebooks with 3D Vision have been strong,” said Ben Thacker, vice president of Systems Business Group-Distribution, ASUS North America. “Now that users can view YouTube videos in high-quality 3D, we expect interest in the ASUS 3D Vision models to grow significantly.”

With a number of new, consumer 3D video cameras launched this year, YouTube’s support of NVIDIA 3D Vision technology extends its existing commitment to 3D, enabling even more consumers and 3D enthusiasts to share their 3D videos online. With attractively priced models now available from JVC, Sony and other leading vendors, users now have another easy way to capture and post high-quality 3D videos on YouTube, 3DVisionLive.com, or even their own websites by embedding the YouTube 3D video player.

To further showcase the new YouTube stereoscopic 3D video streaming capabilities and some of the latest professional and user-generated 3D YouTube videos, NVIDIA is now hosting the top YouTube stereoscopic 3D videos on its 3D web community site at www.3DVisionLive.com/YT3D.

“YouTube 3D on an NVIDIA 3D Vision PC is an amazing experience,” said Phil Eisler, general manager of 3D Vision at NVIDIA. “Now 3D Vision PC users can enjoy over 525 games, YouTube videos and photos in theater-quality, full-resolution 3D.”

To view YouTube stereoscopic 3D videos an NVIDIA 3D Vision-equipped PC or notebook and the latest NVIDIA GeForce® drivers (version 275 or above) are required, as well as Firefox (version 4 or above), which includes support for HTML5 video streaming. Users will also need to select the HTML5 viewing option when viewing a YouTube 3D video: http://www.youtube.com/select_3d_mode.

In addition, with NVIDIA 3DTV Playâ„¢ software, users can connect their PCs to their 3D HDTVs to enjoy 3D YouTube videos on the “big screen” in the comfort of their living rooms.
